Chamberlain Hall Student Residences
Speedclad's early involvement in design development enabled us to answer cost, performance and aesthetics issues with proactive and innovative solutions on this flagship scheme for the University of Birmingham.
The £42 million Chamberlain Hall development provides accommodation for 725 students in a 20-storey double tower and 3 linear blocks. Speedclad had significant input to pre-start client Design Team Meetings and as such was able to develop a design that not only increased the thermal performance of the facade, but also reduced construction time on site and presented our client with notable cost savings. In addition, we worked with CGL Facades to develop a secret-fix tray panel system for the project and established our own production facility to produce pre-manufactured oak cladding panels.
Our committed project management team ensured that the 6391 copper panels were installed to programme and received regular recognition for exemplary safety performance with numerous project awards. The successful execution of this scheme propelled us to negotiate and secure further repeat business with Balfour Beatty.
