Speedclad goes stateside to visit the Stone Panels, Inc factory in Texas

Speedclad recently travelled to Dallas, Texas, to visit Stone Panels, Inc who will be our supply chain partner on the latest Wellington Place development in Leeds.

Speedclad has worked closely with Shepherd Construction to secure the design, supply and installation of a natural stone rainscreen system on 6 Wellington Place in Leeds. The Stonelite cladding system will be manufactured and fabricated by Stone Panels, Inc using a Portuguese limestone. Late last year Speedclad and the project team visited the quarry and cutting shops in Lisbon to view the extraction and cutting process and it was identified that a visit to the Stone Panels, Inc factory, where the raw material would be processed, would be beneficial.

Representatives from Speedclad, Shepherd Construction and the architect, CJCT, travelled to Dallas and toured the Stone Panels factory, reviewing the process and control measures used to produce Stonelite, the market leading "lightweight natural stone rainscreen system". Stone Panels, Inc created the world's first natural stone composite panels 40 years ago and today is recognised as a world leader in design and innovation. The group held a project review following the factory tour to discuss such items as quality control, scheduling, packing and transportation.

Day Two of the visit provided opportunity to visit a number of completed Stone Panels projects around Dallas, including the Northway Central Express Building. The building was installed 30 years ago and, in 2001, was subject to a 125mph tornado which saw 25% of the glass destroyed and furniture sucked straight out from the interior. The stone however remained intact and still looks brand new; testament to the quality of the product, good design, robust installation and an effective cleaning regime.

We're looking forward to starting work on 6 Wellington Place and to continuing to build our relationships with both Stone Panels, Inc and Shepherd Construction, based on collaboration and a commitment to successful outcomes for all.
