Speedclad takes on the Yorkshire Three Peaks
On 8th September, a team from Speedclad took on, and conquered, the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for our nominated national charity of the year, Cancer Research UK.
8 members of staff from various departments signed up earlier this year to take on the 24-mile hike across the Yorkshire Three Peaks. The challenge was to complete this hike, which includes 1585m of ascent to the summits of Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m), within 12 hours. The team took part in practice hikes over the summer, including Pen-y-Ghent, and met at 6am on the day of the challenge, primed and ready to go.
The weather conditions throughout the day were appalling! The rain and wind didn't let up at all and the team were literally soaked to the skin and hiking in treacherous conditions. However, they kept each other going and showed incredible resilience, determination and teamwork and completed the challenge with everyone back at base and hugging hot drinks well within the timeframe. A massive WELL DONE and THANK YOU to the team and the support crew and Thank You to everyone who sponsored! Fundraising totals are still rolling in but it looks likely that we will exceed £2000 for Cancer Research UK!
