Project Award: Health Campus, University of Hull
Interserve Construction has awarded Speedclad the contract for design, installation and management of the cladding facade on this state-of-the-art clinical skills facility.
The new £28m health campus at the university will bring together the Hull/ York Medical School and the Faculty of Health and Social Care and establish a new institute for Clinical and Applied Health Research. The scheme includes a 5-storey, 70,000 sq ft new build and the refurbishment of existing buildings on the west side of the main campus.
The new Allam Medical Building will provide specialised medical teaching facilities including a full mock hospital ward simulating a real life healthcare environment, operating theatre and intensive care nursing facilities. There wil be collaborative working areas, an innovative projecting lecture area offering flexible learning space for 300 students, meeting rooms, a think pod, extensive atrium and 'green roofs' with external terraces. The building has been part-funded by Hull City FC Chairman, Assem Allam.
Speedclad's facade package includes an aluminium vertical interlocking plank cladding system and curved aluminium soffits.
This is the latest project in a £200m investment programme at the University which also includes a new student halls complex, revamp of the Brynmor Jones Library and refurbishment of Middleton Hall; all of which is expected to be ready for Hull's City of Culture year in 2017.
